"One should eat to live, not live to eat.”

Moliere

hey, Mom Tips—

1
Read all directions first and make sure you have all the needed ingredients before you start cooking.

2
Start with fresh, quality ingredients, always.

3
To heat up spaghetti (or similar foods) in the microwave, put a normal serving on a microwave safe plate. Sprinkle lightly with water and cover with a dampened paper towel. The paper won’t stick and the pasta won’t dry out.

4
Eggs should be cooked on low heat so they won’t get tough.

5
Never store tomatoes in the refrigerator. Store them on the counter, where they will retain their flavor and even ripen if they are not quite ready to eat.

Cooking

Cooking is easy as long as you follow the directions. Most packages and recipes come with fairly easy to understand directions. The trouble comes when people don’t understand the terminology or when they take things too literally. All good cookbooks will define cooking terms, so if you come across something you don’t understand, you can look it up.

One of the most important things to remember about cooking is to take your time. Hurrying only leads to disaster. We live in a time when we think everything must happen immediately. Fast food does not necessarily equal good food. If you try to hurry in the kitchen by cooking something at a high temperature instead of medium or low as directed in the recipe, you will only end up ruining your food.

Convenience food is never as nutritious or satisfying as something you make yourself. Learn to cook simple, easy meals that consist of real food, and not only will you eat better, you will also save on grocery bills. Pre-made foods are expensive.

Included in this site are recipes that our family has enjoyed, well most members of our family, and they are easy to make. They generally store well for leftovers (which make a quick lunch or supper the next day), and mostly, they do not take a lot of time to make.

Collecting recipes from your family, from magazines, from all kinds of sources is a way to increase your repertoire of ideas.
