“Meat was not meant to be loafed.”

Kevin Hogue

hey, Mom Tips—

1
Peel garlic, cut the ends off and smash cloves under a large, flat bladed knife to make it easier to chop. This process also releases more flavor into your recipe.

2
Use a serrated knife to slice tomatoes, especially if your knives are not sharp.

3
Some foods will freeze well after they’re made, and you can put half a recipe away for using later. Lasagne can be frozen before or after it is baked.

4
When you drain pasta, run cold water in the sink to counteract the steam.

5
Invest in a good cook book and read directions carefully. That’s the way you learn.

6
Kevin says the perfect peanut butter and jelly sandwich is made by thinly spreading peanut butter on both pieces of bread and then putting the jelly on. This way the jelly won’t seep into the bread

7
When heating foods in the microwave, cover with a dampened paper towel instead of plastic.

8
To add nutrition to meat loaf or chili, add a grated carrot. The carrot will “disappear,” but the vitamins won’t.
